A warm, safe and welcoming space   . . .
Refurbish a Bedroom for a Family

The Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter has 16 rooms that accept women and families fleeing domestic violence -- and each one has seen as many as 200 families come and go in the last 10 years.

Help purchase new furniture, refurbish the well-worn décor, and add homey touches that help families recover from their trauma and feel safe and comfortable during their stay.

A Place of Their Own  . . .
Help Create aTeen Room

The CWES Shelter welcomes families with children from new-borns to 18 years. We find, however, that teens need space away from the usual hubbub created by the often large number of children.

We desperately need to create a space for teens to retreat to and be with each other. Help create a space for teens to do homework, access computers, watch TV (and not Barney),  play video and other games, or just hang out.

Help the shelter help the kids . . .
Build an observation room
Help us create an observation room where counsellors and parents can observe children in play-led therapy. Through the use of a one-way mirror, moms can learn news ways of interacting with their children and professionals can evaluate the children without disturbing them.

Heat the House
CWES finds it increasingly difficult to keep up with spiraling operational costs to help the more than 12,000 people we serve in the community. Please help by paying the substantial heating bill and allow us to spend that money on direct client services.

Help when its needed
Sponsor the Crisis Line

The Shelter’s Crisis Line can be a lifeline to women escaping domestic violence. It is answered by specially-trained counsellors 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. They can assess the level of danger a caller may be in and immediately link to police services when required.

With over 10,000 calls coming in to the Crisis Line annually, counsellors handle a wide variety of situations and can link callers to crisis and community resources as required.

The Shelter’s Crisis Line is always available for a woman to call for advice, information, support and counselling. And most importantly – hope.

Creating Non-Abusive Futures
Stop the abuse before it happens. The shelter offers a Healthy Relationships program in high schools that explores with youth what healthy relationships look like: at home, at school, at work, with friends and with partners.  Two specially-trained counsellors host a small group of teens each semester to empower them to make positive and healthy choices.

Sponsors of all the above items will be acknowledged in a newspaper advertisement in May, and in the Shelter’s Report to the Community in June.
